Geoff Molson spoke with the media talking about the opportunity the Montreal Canadiens have, but there’s something he said that must be addressed.
There are three things that Montreal Canadiens fans will take from Geoff Molson’s media availability on Wednesday.
1. There won’t be a President of Hockey Operations
The Habs haven’t had a President since the 90s. There were rumours of possibly Vincent Damphousse getting the gig, but Molson made it clear the decisions will be made by Marc Bergevin and relayed to him.
2. There is a plan to create a third jersey for the club.
Other NHL teams have been releasing alternative jerseys for years while Montreal hasn’t had anything different since their uniform for the NHL100 Classic against the Ottawa Senators in 2017. Whatever the organization comes up with won’t be released and available until next season, but it’s interesting to see they are listening to the fans on this one.
3. Bergevin is still his guy
This ties in with the first point. Molson once again made it clear that his faith in Bergevin is unwavering and that he’s, “one of the most respected GMs in NHL.”
So much for possibility of Vincent Damphousse becoming president of hockey operations for #Habs. Geoff Molson says he's not going to hire a hockey president and that GM Marc Bergevin will continue to report directly to him. Calls Bergevin one of the most respected GMs in NHL.

Bergevin has stock in the NHL having been a former player who saw over 1000 games while also being a part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization, who many idolize for what they were able to accomplish.
However, there is one other thing that Molson said, which connects to the first and third points. Molson hasn’t backed down from praising Bergevin, but it truly feels he’s putting all his optimism in him and whatever plan he has.
