With the Montreal Canadiens season on hiatus, we have been taking a look back at some of their past drafts. Today, we look back and grade every pick from the 2007 NHL Draft.

The Montreal Canadiens have built up a great group of prospects in the past few years. We haven’t looked back at the most recent draft because it is a little too early to make any grand proclamations about 19 or 20 year old hockey players.

So, we have been looking back at the drafts a little earlier than that. We started with the 2017 NHL Draft and have been working our way backwards. Today, we take a look at the 2007 NHL Draft.

The Canadiens had plenty of selections to make at the 2007 NHL Draft. They had traded defenceman Craig Rivet to the San Jose Sharks and acquired a first round pick in that deal. They had also dealt Richard Zednik to the Washington Capitals and in exchange added another third round pick.

This gave them two picks in the first round, one in the second and two more in the third. In total, they had five of the first 73 selections in the draft. Not to get ahead of myself, but they made the most of it as well. This would end up being one of the best drafts the Montreal Canadiens ever took part in. It should have set them up for the next decade, or more, but we can talk about bad trades another day.

So, let’s continue on looking back at past drafts and give the Habs a grade for each pick they made back in 2007.
