The Montreal Canadiens take on the Tampa Bay Lightning looking to build off a win against the defending St. Louis Blues. Here is your preview, who to watch, start time and how to watch tonight’s contest.
The Montreal Canadiens are off to an exciting start to the 2019-20 season. On opening night, they fell behind 2-0 deficit to the Carolina Hurricanes. Two nights later the Habs trailed 4-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Habs fell behind the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 in the third period in their third game of the season.
Somehow, they came out of that opening week with a record of 1-0-2, coming back in all three games to tie it in the third period. Every one of those games went to overtime and the Habs lost a shootout, won a shootout and lost in overtime. It looked like they were going to lose all three games, so to scratch and claw to find four points out of those three games was impressive, especially considering they were all on the road.
Then, they went home and put forth a disappointing effort in front of their home crowd. The Habs hosted the Detroit Red Wings and went from a free flowing road team that traded chances with their opponent and scored lots of goals, to a team that lost 4-2 on home ice to the Red Wings.
On Saturday night, the Habs used a huge third period to double up the St. Louis Blues. They were trailing 3-2 late in the second period, but scored to tie it before the second intermission. They would then score three unanswered goals in the final frame to win 6-3.
Tonight, the Habs face the high powered Tampa Bay Lightning for the first time this season. The Lightning won a league record 62 games last season but are off to a bit of an uneven start this year. They started with a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers, but were defeated by the Panthers a few nights later. They then had a brutal showing against the Carolina Hurricanes, only registering two shots on goal after the first period, but somehow managed a point in an overtime loss.
The Lightning bounced back from that game with a big 7-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was Brayden Point’s first game of the season and it appeared they had figured things out, but they would then lose 4-2 to the lowly Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
