The Montreal Canadiens have quickly built up one of the best group of prospects in the National Hockey League. We got a glimpse of them at the end of the season but will get a longer look at the Memorial Cup.

The Montreal Canadiens have had a shortage of talent at the centre ice position for years. Check that, they have had a shortage of talent at the centre ice position for decades. Not since the days of Pierre Turgeon, Vincent Damphousse and Saku Koivu have they had impressive depth down the middle.

That is about to change. The Habs have a number of excellent young centre-ice men in the pipeline. It is not just centres either, Montreal has drafted well and made a few shrewd trades recently to restock the prospect cupboards.

No matter where you looked this winter, there was a Montreal Canadiens prospect not far away and probably lighting up whatever league he happened to play for. From the minor pro leagues to the NCAA to Quebec, to Ontario, to the Western Hockey League and all over Europe Habs prospects were prospering.

The World Junior Championship in December and January was quite the stage for members of the bleu, blanc et rouge. The upcoming Memorial Cup has three of its four teams showcasing Habs talent.

In the salary cap era of the National Hockey League, it is important to feed your team with cheap, young homegrown talent. The Habs will be flooded with just those type of players in the coming years.

Some of those prospects won impressive awards throughout the season. Let’s take a deeper dive into their top prospects, and highlight their impressive accomplishments.
