Montreal Canadiens: Cayden Primeau nominated for the Hobey Baker Award
The Montreal Canadiens prospect pool continues to do the organization proud with Cayden Primeau getting nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
It’s as if the Montreal Canadiens and their prospects can’t be kept off a headline. All jokes aside, the young players in the system have given management and fans a lot to be happy about. Alexander Romanov, Ryan Poehling, and Nick Suzuki were recently the recipients of some recognition league-wide, and now Cayden Primeau is joining the club.
Primeau is 16 games into his sophomore year at Northeastern University and hasn’t taken much of a step back from the performance he had last season. The 19-year-old is just coming off two wins against the University of Maine. The first saw Primeau stop 19 of 21 shots while the second was a 33-save shutout marking the third time this season he’s made 30 or more saves.
He’s sitting comfortably amongst the best goaltenders with a 12-3-1 record, and .923 save percentage and the Huskies are benefitting from the performances. All of that work has led to Primeau being nominated for the Hobey Baker Award along with teammate Jeremy Davies.
The award goes to the best player in NCAA Division I and isn’t presented into the end of the year. Habs 2014 seventh-round pick Jake Evans was up for the award last season, but Primeau’s teammate Adam Gaudette was the recipient.
Votes from the fans narrow down some of the nominations, however, seeing Primeau get the initial consideration is still a major accomplishment. Get out and vote if you can as it would be special to see a Montreal Canadiens prospect at the awards ceremony.
