Jonathan Drouin had a strong month for the Montreal Canadiens and will receive the Molson Cup ahead of Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers.

The month of November is over for the Montreal Canadiens. Their next game won’t be until Saturday when they take on the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre to kick off the Christmas season as the calendar turns to December. And as another month passes, the team honours another player for their contributions.

Jonathan Drouin will be the recipient of the Molson Cup for the month for the second time in his career with the Habs. Although the majority of the focus was on Max Domi and his point-streak, Drouin was doing some damage of his own.

The 23-year-old put up 6 goals and 6 assists over the course of the 14 games increasing his season total to 9 goals and 11 assists. Drouin also had a point streak of his own, granted not as long as Domi’s, that stretched over five games. He’s well on his way already to surpassing his season total from last year (43 points) if he continues to score at this pace which would have him finish at approximately 65.

That along with Domi, Brendan Gallagher, Tomas Tatar, and a returning Paul Byron will be just the firepower the Montreal Canadiens need to break this slump. The team’s five-game losing skid has taken them out of a playoff spot to fifth in the Atlantic Division. Fortunately, the Habs aren’t in the exact same position as they were the season before.

A few wins can get Montreal back in the running, but they’ll need to generate a steady flow of momentum and keep it going. The worst position you can be in is relying on the success or failures of someone else to dictate where you land, and the Montreal Canadiens may be there unless they pull up their socks.

The dynamic between Drouin and Domi has been deadly and hopefully, it’s one of the sparks to get the team back in the winning column on Saturday. Drouin just has a trophy to receive first.
