Marc Bergevin had a press conference after the Montreal Canadiens wrapped up their practice discussing Jesperi Kotkaniem, Max Dom and the team’s start.

It’s not unusual for a general manager to address the media early in the season. Marc Bergevin did that last season but the circumstances around the Montreal Canadiens were different. Back then, the team was losing, and when asked for an answer to this, Bergevin said the answer was in the room. And it looks like he took the podium early this year to do the same thing.

Obviously, things are a lot more positive with the Habs. The team sits third in the Atlantic Division with 14 points but still have the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres at their heels. It does seem what Bergevin preached at the end of season interviews was the issue all along.

The Habs didn’t have the right attitude to win. Moving on from Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty to bring in Tomas Tatar and Max Domi was a big part of that transition. Both of the forwards are a big part of the team’s speedy tenacious forecheck generating a good load of scoring chances per game.

Domi, in particular, is leading the team in scoring with five (5) goals and six (6 assists). When asked about the 23-year-old, Bergevin said:

"We knew the player we were getting, but everything has gone his way the first 10 games. A good start gave him confidence."

A good start was in question for Domi considering he was suspended for the rest of the preseason after punching Aaron Ekblad in the nose. The preseason is in some respects useless for an established NHL player, but it was a new team and system he was missing out on getting comfortable with. But Domi came out strong in the Habs’ season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs and never looked back.
