The Montreal Canadiens start day one of their 2018 Rookie Camp this afternoon which will have a bunch of their best prospects getting ready for the season.

I don’t know what you get excited for once September hits, but for me, it’s the camps. That’s when all your predictions and hopes for the upcoming season get some answers, or at the very least, some evidence for or against. The Montreal Canadiens main camp still has time before it gets started. But the rookie camp begins today at 1 PM ET.

It’ll be Joël Bouchard’s second stint as a coach for the organization as he took the lead at development camp as well. Additionally, Daniel Jacob, Alex Burrows and Marco Marciano will be there at Bell Sports Complex running the practices and on-ice drills.

We all know who the focus of Rookie Camp is going to be, and that’s the Habs third-overall pick Jesperi Kotkaniemi. There’s no doubt that all the cameras will be on him. It’s justified though considering what he’s done since the Montreal Canadiens called his name in Dallas.

But there’s a lot of opportunities to get some of those other names on the map as well. Who it is exactly will depend on how the rest of camp plays out.

Here’s a quick summary of the events after Thursday’s practice:

  • Friday – Practice at 10 AM ET
  • Friday – Game vs. Senators 7 PM ET
  • Saturday – Practice at 12 PM ET
  • Sunday – Game vs. Leafs at 3 PM ET
  • Monday – Montreal Canadiens Golf Tournament
  • Wednesday – Practice at 2 PM ET
