The Montreal Canadiens will need to find a new play-by-play voice as John Bartlett has moved from TSN to Sportsnet to call games for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Max Domi, Joel Armia, and Matthew Peca won’t be the only new faces associated with the Montreal Canadiens. In fact, there’s a chance Xavier Ouellet and Jesperi Kotkaniemi get a look with the team at a point during the year. All jokes aside, we don’t know who this new face will be, but TSN is going to need a new play-by-play voice for the Habs as John Bartlett has made the decision to move from TSN to Sportsnet to call Toronto Maple Leafs games.

Bartlett has been calling games for the Habs since 2011. It started out with TSN 690, and then to Sportsnet, and back to TSN in 2015. However, the 39-year-old does have ties to Toronto. Bartlett made his debut in the professional scheme of play-by-play after spending time with the Barrie Colts in the OHL. He worked with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL from 2005-2011.

It was a special time for him in that era of Bartlett’s career as he was awarded the James H. Ellery Memorial award in 2007 for outstanding coverage in the AHL. In his case, it was for his radio work.

Now the question is, who is going to replace Bartlett and sit next to Dave Poulin in the booth? You know, assuming Poulin returns as an analyst for Habs games on TSN.

Nevertheless, the tone that Bartlett brought to his calls will be missed. Even during the nights where not much was going for the Montreal Canadiens, he would find a way to keep the viewers and listeners engaged. And if something happened that was impactful or worth a jolt of energy, fans would know.

It won’t be too long before fans hear Bartlett’s voice again as the Leafs and Habs are set to start their seasons against each other. Hopefully, by then TSN can ensure the person they have in place to replace him can exceed him.
