Montreal Canadiens prospects Charlie Lindgren and Cayden Primeau will be taking part in the Warren Strelow National Team Development Camp.

As far as positional depth, the Montreal Canadiens have looked fairly solid in net. Carey Price is and will be the number one guy, but there are two up-and-coming goaltenders behind him in Charlie Lindgren and Cayden Primeau who are continuously turning heads and causing jaws to drop.

Lindgren showed clear signs of starting potential this past season taking the Habs net in place of Price while he was injured (both lower-body and the concussion). The 24-year-old was signed to a three-year extension in February, and although Antti Niemi is still around, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get few NHL games this season. But for now, Lindgren is set to be the top goaltender for the Laval Rocket.

Primeau is getting closer and closer to being dubbed an absolute steal. He had a phenomenal freshman year at Northeastern University and played well for USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase. The 2017 seventh-round pick is going to be a clear candidate for the World Junior team in December, and the Warren Strelow National Development Camp is another step towards that.

More from A Winning Habit

The camp is an annual event made up of top goaltenders who are able to take part in international hockey to build and hone skills to help them improve. This year’s will be the 11th and both Lindgren and Primeau have been invited to participate. Professionals are allowed to go for the first time allowing Lindgren to prepare for the upcoming season.

It could also help him get ready for a future stint at representing the US at an international tournament. Lindgren was named to Team USA at the 2018 World Hockey Championships but was the third-string goaltender behind Scott Darling and Keith Kinkaid. He walked away with a bronze medal, but the next time Lindgren has that uniform on, he’ll want to see some time on the ice and this camp can help pedal that goal further.

Both Lindgren and Primeau will be prospects to watch as there’s hope they can build further upon the progress they made last season. The former is working towards a possible NHL backup role in 2019 while the latter is continuing to prove why those 30 other teams made a massive mistake in passing up on him so many times.

Next. NHL debuts, Peca's role, Plekanec's bonuses. dark

The camp is set to open on Tuesday and goes on for four days. The goal of it all is to allow the goaltenders to add physical and mental enhancements to their play that can translate to wins which is nothing short of good news for Lindgren and Primeau.
