The Montreal Canadiens could’ve possibly had another offseason injury on their hands with Jonathan Drouin, but his agent has shed some light on the rumours.

Although the Montreal Canadiens haven’t made a boatload of big moves, save for the Max Domi trade, it’s been a fairly positive offseason. What’s brought down some of those happy vibes were the number of offseason surgeries to repair injuries that members of the organization had to go through.

It started with Shea Weber who initially had one on his foot but later required a procedure on his knee. The list extended on to Andrew Shaw, Paul Byron, Jake Evans and Joni Ikonen. What Habs fans didn’t need to hear was that there was a possible Jonathan Drouin injury on deck. Thankfully, the rumours around that have been shut down and cleared by his agent Allan Walsh.

A Facebook post by Tom Lapointe brought up the ‘news’ that Drouin had suffered a serious knee injury at Kris Letang‘s tournament. Apparently, the fact that the 24-year-old withdrew from the Pro-Am Bergeron-Gagné (another tournament) and the Boot Camp of Quebec added more fuel to the fire. But there was never any confirmation from the Montreal Canadiens, in particular, their Twitter account that has been more detailed since Marc Bergevin and Geoff Molson preached more fan transparency.

Agent Walsh swooped in to save the day setting the dispute straight on Twitter.

No matter what the overall expectations are for the 2018-19 season, Drouin having a serious injury would’ve been damaging on multiple fronts. It would open up another spot at centre for someone else to step into, then again, it hurts his development as a centre. The Drouin at centre experiment looks to be an on-going process and after a difficult year, getting back at it and showing signs of improvement will be crucial.

Him being injured would backtrack that, especially if it was a knee injury. Ailments such as that can derail a season.

We’re about three weeks away from the Montreal Canadiens getting things started for the year. Drouin is set and ready to play centre again, and having him 100% healthy per Walsh is nothing short of a fantastic thing.
