Jacob Oloffson made the Montreal Canadiens proud on Day Two of the World Junior Summer Showcase scoring a goal for Sweden.

It was another day of World Junior hockey in Kamloops. The first match saw Sweden and Finland squaring off each other with Montreal Canadiens second-round pick Jacob Oloffson who was on the first line once again.

Fellow Timra team and linemate Filip Hallander was in the game for Sweden as well, but he instead had Marcus Sylvegard on his right instead of Fabian Zetterberg. Another difference between games one and two was Oloffson’s placement on the power play that had him in front of the net instead of on the right side.

The game was one of the more intense ones that we’ve seen so far. Erkka Seppälä scored the first goal six minutes in. Luckily Oloffson and left winger Lukas Elvenes combined to tie it up not too long afterwards. The Golden Knights prospect found Oloffson who was streaking in to beat goaltender Filip Lindberg.

The young centre’s ability to recognize a play and go to the right areas was one of the things that stood out in his draft year playing for Timra, and it was good to see him put that to use for his national team.

Sweden and Finland continued to exchange goals as the game went on. By the end of the third period, the two teams were tied at three. Overtime didn’t solve anything either, so it went to the shootout.

Oloffson had the first attempt on Lindberg but wasn’t able to find the back of the net a second time. Linus Nyman gave Finland the edge after he scored on the team’s third attempt and that turned out to be the winner. Unfortunately, that brings Sweden’s record to 0-1-1.

Next up is the round robin and Sweden’s next game won’t be played until Thursday, August 1st at 4:00 PM ET. Olofsson has managed to improve his play as the showcase has continued, and hopefully, he stays on that path.
