The Montreal Canadiens played their last game of the season at the beginning of April. Since then, the organization has been getting nothing but wins.
The Montreal Canadiens only won 29 games this season. That was the lowest total in the win column since the 2000-01 season where the team only had 28. Changes were on the way after that final buzzer went off at the Air Canada Centre. The question was what would they be and how will they improve the team?
Since the offseason began for the Habs, it’s been nothing but victories. Hayden Verbeek and Alexandre Alain were signed to entry-level deals giving fans more incentive to pay attention to the CHL Playoffs. Draft picks Jake Evans, and Lukas Vejdemo also got a deal taking another step forward in the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Next saw Marc Bergevin relieve Sylvain Lefebvre, JJ Daigneault, and Dan Lacroix relieved of their duties. In their stead came Dominique Ducharme and as of Thursday morning, Jöel Bouchard. Two of the top people to come out of the QMJHL joining the Montreal Canadiens speaks volumes.
Add on the winning one of the draft lotteries moving up to third overall, and the Habs 2018 offseason can be described as one thing, a success.
Of course, that’s based on what’s happened so far. There are a lot more things that need to come into place. The NHL Entry Draft, as well as Free Agent Frenzy, may be the next site of more offseason wins for Montreal.
