Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin appeared on Tout le monde en parle and gave some hints at possible changes in management.

The tour of interviews continued for Marc Bergevin and saw him land on Tout le monde en parle on Sunday night. It was another opportunity for the general manager to share his thoughts and answer questions on what exactly happened with the Montreal Canadiens this season. A lot of it was the same thing we’ve been reading and hearing ever since the final buzzer went off on April 7th.

The attitude of some of the players, as well as the poor start to the year, was what sunk the team. However, this television spot added a few more details to the ‘attitude’ problem. It was suspected that Carey Price and Max Pacioretty were at the forefront of that Bergevin mentioned that there were moments where the starting goaltender wouldn’t salute the fans at the Bell Centre. Apparently, it was an honest mistake, which I agree it most likely was, but the Habs general manager mentioned that he’s had conversations with Price about it already.

Bergevin also hinted at another main topic of he and Geoff Molson’s claims at the end of the season. Remember, Montreal Canadiens fans were promised change on and off the ice. The firing of Sylvain Lefebvre was the first change in management as the search for the new Laval Rocket head coach continues. Bergevin stated that Trevor Timmins, assistant general manager and overseer of amateur scouting staff, will still be with the organization at the draft in June.

That may not be the same for other members of those in charge of the team’s drafting which could include the scouting staff. There wasn’t a guarantee of something happening, but Bergevin spoke of wide-spread personnel evaluations which may have firings come with it.

Whether that’s the right move or not is hard to gauge. The Montreal Canadiens have been critiqued for subpar drafting in the past. But the last couple of years look bright with the likes of Ryan Poehling, Jake Evans, and Cayden Primeau to name a few in the organization. That being said, it’s a crucial draft considering the number of picks the Habs have in the first five rounds.

It’s years like these that are defining moments for any team. If you don’t draft and develop properly, there’s no hope for you in the NHL. With the firing of Lefebvre and the focus now on the scouts, it seems like Bergevin and the rest of management are finally starting to put some action towards that.
