Montreal Canadiens top-pairing defenceman Shea Weber is projected to have a shorter recovery time from his surgery than initially expected.

The game of, ‘Where is Shea Weber?’, was an interesting one to play this season for the Montreal Canadiens. Fans knew that he was sidelined and trying to rest from a foot injury, but what they couldn’t decide was the constant push back of possible return dates. Weber remained day-to-day for quite some time and was believed to return to the lineup by the All-Star Game and then the Trade Deadline.

Despite the reassurance, fans knew something was up. Hearing that Weber would require surgery to his foot came to no surprise, and luckily he went through a successful procedure at the hands of Dr. Robert Anderson. The downside of the surgery was the recovery time.

The Montreal Canadiens initially announced that the 32-year-old would require six months to recover from the procedure fully. That timeline would have Weber ready for September 13th right in the smack of training camp. Although the team expected him to come back for that date, there would still be a chance that he wouldn’t be in true game shape considering the amount of rest he would need over the summer instead of taking time to train.

More from Habs News

Habs management seemed confident in the readiness of Weber for next season, and it looks like we now know why. Eric Engels included in an article for Sportsnet yesterday information on the veteran’s recovery. According to an unnamed source, Weber’s recovery from the surgery is closer to four months than the original six-month prediction.

"But, if all goes well, it should be closer to four. That’s why the Canadiens are 100 per cent certain he will be ready and in top shape for the start of next training camp"

That’s great news for the Montreal Canadiens and fans who are looking forward to seeing Weber play for the team again. For the Habs to have the bounce back that Marc Bergevin is pulling for, having their defence in order is essential. Weber is a big part of that, and if he is ready for training camp, perhaps Montreal can have a better start than they did this season.

Sean Burke had success at the 2018 Winter Olympics winning bronze with a Canadian team with little to no expectations. Now he along with Martin Brodeur will have the chance to strike for gold at the IIHF World Hockey Championships. It’s nice for both to get more experience in a general manager role, you never know what opportunities will come up.

Montreal Canadiens trade target: Adam Mascherin

A trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers? Nick Bjugstad or Henrik Borgström are untouchable, but perhaps Adam Mascherin, who told management that he would not be signing with the team, will be an option as the Panthers try to move him.
