Jake Evans has been one of the main Montreal Canadiens college prospects to track this year, and his Big Ten Championship is another bonus to his season.

There were three prospects who the Montreal Canadiens were most likely going to keep their eye on this season. William Bitten and Michael Pezzetta in the OHL showed a lot of promise and were in need of entry-level contracts to remain part of the organization. However, Jake Evans has been the name who has turned heads all year.

The University of Notre Dame senior is on a tear and is continuing to cap off a solid season with a Big Ten Championship victory. Evans and the Fighting Irish defeated Ohio State last night in overtime to claim the top prize.

The game ended in overtime after the 2014 seventh-round pick won the faceoff in the defensive zone and found Cam Morison streaking into the Ohio zone who ripped the game-winner home.

Kind of fitting that the Fighting Irish won on St. Patricks Day, isn’t it?

More from Habs News

Evans final tally is at 11 goals and 29 assists (40 points in 35 games), and he and his team have punched a ticket to the regional qualifiers for the Frozen Four. It’s been an outstanding senior year for him, and there’s still more that can come from it.

Hopefully, when all is said and done, Evans signs a contract with the Montreal Canadiens and sees a few games in either the NHL or AHL.
