Jeremiah Addison has been out since before Montreal Canadiens training camp recovering from shoulder surgery, and his return to the game is coming soon.

The Montreal Canadiens had two injuries very early in the season. They weren’t players projected to be on the main roster, but there was a lot of optimism around them as they were preparing to make their professional debut in the AHL. Noah Juulsen broke his foot in the first preseason game for the Habs and was out for six weeks while Jeremiah Addison suffered from shoulder surgery before training camp even began.

Many believed at first that the 21-year-old injured himself at the Rookie Tournament in Toronto, but he played in the final game against the Ottawa Senators. Addison and the rest of the Habs rookies continued to have their program going after that final game, and that was when he injured himself. That was five months ago.

Anthony Marcotte tweeted that Addison joined the Laval Rocket this morning wearing a non-contact jersey.

Considering how well Juulsen has been for Laval since making his debut after his injury, the same optimism is there for Addison. The 2015 seventh-round pick captained the Windsor Spitfires to a Memorial Cup victory putting up 24 goals and 19 assists in 51 games. His offensive skill is matched with his determined play along the boards and in front of the net makes him an effective option whenever on the ice.

We got a glimpse of it at the Rookie Tournament, and it would be a good boost for the Rocket if that can continue in the AHL. Skating is just a start, but just as Marcotte mentioned, Addison’s timetable had him return in March, so it looks like he’s right on schedule.

The majority of what would have been his rookie year in the AHL is nearly done, but there would still be some time to get a few games under his belt and give the coaching staff something to look forward to for next season.
