Marc Bergevin has been jumping cities to catch other games as of late which could hint at how active the Montreal Canadiens will be at the Trade Deadline.
Sometimes when it comes to scouting, general managers just have to do it themselves. Montreal Canadiens fans are counting down the days until the Trade Deadline and Marc Bergevin is making his rounds in other cities to take in some games.
First Bergevin was in New York on Friday to catch the Rangers-Flames game. That brought up some old discussions involving a trade with Calgary possibly for Max Pacioretty as they continue to look for scoring going into the playoffs. On Saturday, instead of staying in Montreal to see his team take on the Nashville Predators, Bergevin was in Minnesota watching their game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
According to Craig D. Schroepfer, it was more than just a seat in the stands for Habs general manager.

Read into that what you will
Now that doesn’t scream trade talk or anything, but it’s something to keep note of. At the same time, Chuck Fletcher may not be willing to make too much of a splash this year considering what happened last season at the deadline for the Wild. He’s partly responsible for the reluctance of GMs to be active because of the Martin Hanzal deal.

Minnesota gave up a lot for him and only made it past the first round. There’s always a risk when manoeuvring your team for the post-season, but that’s added a level of caution to the market.
