Phillip Danault was on the ice again ahead of the Montreal Canadiens yesterday which is a great sign as he works his way back to a full recovery.

Remembering what happened to Phillip Danault that night against Boston still brings chills. It was one of those moments that makes you take a step back and acknowledge that this is more than a game and that the people on the ice are more than just players. The Montreal Canadiens have been without Danault’s services for eight games so far as he’s been out recovering from concussion-like symptoms, but after yesterday, he looks to be progressing well.

Danault was on the ice ahead of team practice in Brossard. That marks the second time the 24-year-old has skated since the hit, and according to Claude Julien, it’s all part of the concussion protocol. The head coach also mentioned that the plan will be for Danault to skate again today and continue to track how he is handling it.

Concussions are one of the more subjective injuries in professional sports. One person can recover from it in a few weeks, while others take months. That being said, Danault skating doesn’t mean he is close to returning to the lineup. Ales Hemsky has been skating with the team since January but is still in a non-contact jersey as he gets his symptoms in check as well.

More from Habs News

There’s no rush for Danault to come back and the most important thing is for him to recover fully. With another two months left in the season, there’s a chance we could see him in a Habs uniform before the final game in April, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Knowing that Danault is progressing well is probably good enough news for all of us.

Montreal Canadiens trade target: Josh Mahura

When looking for young talent in a deal, we’ve all had our sights set on acquiring a centre. However, adding more to the defensive pool is never a bad thing, and Josh Mahura of the Regina Pats could be an option if he’s available.

Pacioretty Could Help the Hurricanes

Another destination to consider for Max Pacioretty. The Habs would definitely not want to trade within the division and within the conference may be a tough sell as well. It depends on what the Hurricanes have to offer though.
