There’s been a lot of talk on about a trade between the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues involving Carey Price, and there may be some weight behind it.

You’ve probably heard of the Carey Price trade talk right? The Tim and Sid Twitter account tweeted out something about it – which was later deleted – in that the Montreal Canadiens and the St. Louis Blues may have had a deal in the works. Apparently, it would’ve had Price going to St. Louis with Jake Allen, Robert Thomas, and a first-round pick.

Before we continue, this is all speculation, and none of the insiders we usually we get information about these kinds of things have said anything about it. On the surface, it makes a tad bit of sense. The Blues prospect has been linked to the Habs as a future target for the organization. Thomas got his season off to a great start in London with 46 points in 27 games before being traded to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

He also had a decent showing at the World Juniors for Team Canada picking up a goal and five assists while also being a reliable option defensively for them. Most importantly, Thomas is a centre, and the Habs will most likely be doing all they can to add to that to the prospect pool in the next few years.

Allen, on the other hand, is a serviceable goaltender, and although Price has had his bumps this season, they’re on different levels. He currently has a .909 save percentage which doesn’t look as good as Carter Hutton‘s .943 save percentage granted, in 15 fewer games. The Habs do have Charlie Lindgren in the system who has starting potential, but there’s no guarantee. However, the odds look fairly high in his case.

Besides the initial flurry of talk from the fan base, there hasn’t been much further on this topic. That was until Marc Bergevin went to Saturday’s Hamilton Bulldogs games against the Oshawa Generals.

In other circumstances, there would be nothing more to that considering Will Bitten, a Habs prospect, is having a phenomenal season and it would make sense for Bergevin to want to see him for himself.

More from Rumors

Bitten gave the Habs GM something to watch as he finished the 5-1 win with a goal and two assists. Nice scouting stint for Bergevin there right? Well, what if Bitten wasn’t the only one he was watching? Thomas is on that team now as well, and he and Bitten have found some chemistry on the top-line together.

The move may not specifically be Price for Allen, Thomas, and a first, but perhaps the Habs could get 2017 first round pick in a different trade. Sending Max Pacioretty there makes the most sense especially when you consider the Blues’ desire to add a scoring forward.

It’s just something to think about, and something that may come up more often as the Trade Deadline gets closer.
