The Manitoba Moose got the better of the Laval Rocket last night, but they can’t let that happen again considering how crucial getting points are right now.

The Laval Rocket pushed, but the Manitoba Moose pushed harder. It also didn’t help that Eric Comrie gave his team a quality start stopping 40 of 39 shots in the 4-1 win. Despite that, the talk of last night’s loss was Nic Petan‘s performance as he finished the night with three assists. His between the legs pass to Micahel Spacek on the power play definitely stood out from the rest.

Charlie Lindgren gave Laval a quality start despite allowing three goals, but he didn’t get enough support from his teammates to turn that into two points. Not only in terms of goals as Laval could’ve done a better job in clearing pucks from in front of the net and staying true to assignments in the defensive zone. However, when it comes to the goals, we have Comire to blame for that.

The game plan for tonight should be to bring the same level of hard work and effort with more finish. Additionally, Laval has to control the pace to start instead of weathering the storm of assault from the visiting team. They’ve been on the wrong end of that lately at home, and the Moose are just the latest example of that. Poor starts aren’t all to blame for Laval’s 1-6 record at the Place Bell this month, but it’s a big part of it.

More from Laval Rocket

What the team needs to do is implant some urgency on the ice. They know it probably more than any of us, but Utica now has a ten point lead on them for fourth in the North Division after beating Binghamton.

The leaders need to step up and the team needs results. Chris Terry got a couple of looks at the net in the final minutes of the game, let’s see if he can convert on more of them. Additionally, Nikita Scherbak is continuing to put up points as he assisted on Daniel Audette’s 5-on-3 power play goal.

After tonight, Laval will have three days off before starting the next stretch of the season. Winning this game and cutting into Utica’s point lead will be a good way end this one off.
