The Laval Rocket will face the Manitoba Moose twice before the All-Star break, and the first match is set for tonight at home.

It’ll take a well-rounded effort from the Laval Rocket to walk out of this game with two points. The Manitoba Moose haven’t been as dominant as they were earlier in the season going 4-4-2 in their last ten games, but they’re second in the AHL in points, and still one of it’s most dangerous teams.

Laval has already played Manitoba twice losing both games at Bell MTS Place. In order to turn their record against them in the other direction, they’ll need to erase some of the eye sores displayed in that Syracuse Crunch game. The Rocket took ten minor penalties and gave up goals on two of them. Additionally, they were only able to score on one of their nine power-play chances as the Crunch ran into penalty trouble as well.

This Manitoba Moose team scores a lot of goals and doesn’t give up too many either. Mason Appleton is leading the way in points with 13 goals and 24 assists followed by Buddy Robinson who has 18 goals and 17 assists under his belt. Additionally, Nic Petan became the latest Moose player to reach the 10 goal mark in their win on Wednesday bringing the total to six players on the team with double-digit goals.

On the other hand, the likes of Adam Cracknell, Nikita Scherbak, and Chris Terry are continuing to have good seasons offensively. Terry, in particular, is one goal away from hitting 20 for the fifth time in his AHL career.

More from Laval Rocket

The plan for Laval is to make sure this game doesn’t get out of hand, both in discipline and goals. If that happens Charlie Lindgren, who will most likely get the start, will need to be strong in this game as well.

You also have to factor in Michael Hutchinson on the other side of the ice who is tied for first in save percentage with Garret Sparks at .942. Generating traffic and taking his eyes away is going to be key to get pucks past him.

There isn’t much much wiggle room for the Laval Rocket to continue to slide with Utica playing solid hockey as of late. They need points and having a full effort against the Moose will be a good way to get things started.
