The Montreal Canadiens will have a hint of gold in their system as Victor Mete is a World Juniors Champion after Canada defeated Sweden 3-1.

I’d say that was a mission accomplished, wouldn’t you? The Montreal Canadiens sending Victor Mete to play at the World Juniors was a chance for the rookie to gain more confidence by being a leader on a Team Canada blueline itching for a gold medal. It took a set of dominating games and a frustrating loss to the US in the shootout, but Canada was the team to raise the trophy at the end.

Come to think of it, there’s some significance in Mete being part of this Gold medal team. The Woodbridge native was drafted in 2016, which was in Buffalo, and made his NHL debut this season in Buffalo. Talk about a coincidence, but you have to think that KeyBank Centre will have a large part in his memories for the rest of his life.

Mete finished the tournament with three assists but it was his overall play that stood out. His poise and skating stood out the most, and you could tell that he spent time in the NHL before playing there.

The other players on the team may know where they’re going after this, but it’s still up in the air for Mete. Based on all the chatter, the 19-year-old will most likely be sent back to junior in hopes that he’s named to the Winter Olympics team. Imagine Mete winning two back-to-back gold medals.

If the 2016 4th round pick continues to gain this much winning experience, it’ll be scary thinking about what he will do with the Montreal Canadiens next season. And when I say scary, I mean for the other 30 teams in the league.
