The talk of the day may be fitting considering the Montreal Canadiens are set to play Calgary soon, but a move involving Max Pacioretty has come up.

Just because the NHL is on their holiday trade freeze, doesn’t mean talk about possible moves is on hold. We don’t know for certain what kind of move the Montreal Canadiens will be making in the near future. It’ll all depend on where they are in the upcoming weeks. However, whether the Habs are in a buying or selling position, Max Pacioretty‘s name is always among those on the trade list.

Grant McCagg from Recrutes.com wrote an article yesterday detailing possible talk between the Habs and the Flames involving Pacioretty. It would make sense for Calgary to want to add some more goal scoring to their top six.

Although Pacioretty hasn’t been scoring as much as the Habs would want him to now, his pace and drive have gotten better as of late. It’s only a matter of time before the 29-year-old starts to score.

More from Rumors

One thing that most people have mentioned is the captain’s future with the team. Regardless of the how he is performing now, it may not be in Marc Bergevin‘s best interest to resign him. Pacioretty has been on one of the league’s best contracts making $4.5 million a year since the 2013-14 season.

A team will put a lot of stock in that as well as his goal-scoring ability. McCagg also mentioned in his article that Mark Jankowski could be one of the pieces going the other way. The 23-year-old is 28 games into his NHL career after being taken 21st overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Flames.

The first thing that stands out about him is his size as he stands at six-foot-four and 202 pounds. Jankowski also has the offensive instincts and hands to match the frame which will make him an effective center for the next years to come. He already has six goals and five assists this season which isn’t too bad of a total considering he averages a little over 13 minutes a game.

A trade like this could be a win-win for both sides.
