The Montreal Canadiens played an entertaining and stressful game against the Vancouver Canucks where the concept of defence was non-existent.
They can never make it easy for us. A total of 12 goals were scored in 60 minutes between the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks, and fortunately, the Habs came up on top. The game didn’t start the way they wanted to as they found themselves taking a back seat to the Canucks for a lot of it. However, it looks like that can all be fixed with a see-saw of goal scoring.
Lack of defence is something we can expect with Shea Weber being off the team. At the same time, some of the chances that the Habs allowed were worrying. Whether the game plan is sacrificing playing the right way for offence or not is a mystery to us. Considering Boston won their game last night as well as Detroit and Florida, getting the two points pretty much overshadows how it was done.
Fans are going to have another lull period as Montreal won’t play again until Friday. It would be surprising to see any changes made to the lineup in between then, but I could also see Julien emphasizing the basics of defensive coverage in the next few practices.
With the gaping hole on the blueline, defence by committee became that much more important. We saw in this game that Carey Price could stop most of the chances, but not all of them. If the Habs can find a way to limit them and at the same time continue with this surplus of goal scoring, stringing together, wins won’t sound as crazy as it did a week ago.
