The Montreal Canadiens end their three-game losing streak in overtime thanks to Charles Hudon and Tomas Plekanec. Next stop the NHL 100 Classic.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about a Montreal Canadiens games, hasn’t it?  The 6-2 blowout loss to the Edmonton Oilers was the last time the Habs hit the ice, and there weren’t too many positives to take out of that one.

Ironically, there weren’t too many good things to take out of this game either (save for the overtime). The New Jersey Devils outplayed the Habs in all situations which was a little-unexpected considering Taylor Hall was out of the lineup.

Montreal didn’t make it too hard for them with the number of giveaways and missed assignments throughout the night. Carey Price and the penalty kill were just as responsible for the win as Tomas Plekanec’s goal was.

Either way, it’s a big win for the Montreal Canadiens to get as they now get ready for their seven-game road trip. It also helps that the Boston Bruins lost to the Capitals in regulation. The Bruins still have games in hand against the Habs (three of them), but keeping the point gap between the two teams close will directly impact their playoff hopes.

The first stop on the road will be the anticipated historical event at Lawrence Park: the NHL 100 Classic. It doesn’t seem to be too appealing of a match card on paper when you look at how the two teams have faired this season. However, the Sens and Habs always bring the best out of each other and fans should expect nothing less on Saturday.
