Montreal Canadiens: Carey Price Speaks to Media
Montreal Canadiens starter Carey Price gave the media some updates on his progress after missing the past five games with a lower-body injury.
The Montreal Canadiens have been able to win seven of their last ten games without Carey Price. In some ways, Price wasn’t helping the team when he was playing, but a lot of that could be attributed to how poor defensively the Habs were. For the time being, Charlie Lindgren has been able to step in and give Montreal some quality starts.
It was a small window of absence for Price when the team first announced that he would be missing time almost two weeks ago but, there isn’t a real reason to rush him back right now.
The 30-year-old spoke with media Tuesday morning on his status.
That makes perfect sense. Price was letting weak goals up until then, but that game against Minnesota was very uncharacteristic of him. The first one he gave up was a sloppy cut across the crease, and the second just didn’t look like he cared or was trying. Price made some solid stops for the remainder of the game, but visible red flags were being waved around there.
We knew this already, but it’s good to get further insurance that it isn’t. Price and lower-body injury in the same sentence trigger dark memories around the Montreal Canadiens.
The day-to-day tag is still being used here. Price mentioned that his position as a goaltender is making this kind of injury more difficult to fully recover. It was also nice for him to say that the way Lindgren has been playing as of late is making the time away from the team easier to swallow.
There’s no clear return date for Price, but it looks like when he is ready, it will be because he’s at 100%. I’ve mentioned before that a tandem of a fully-healed Price and Lindgren would be devastating for the rest of the league. We may be getting closer to that outcome.
