Montreal Canadiens Reveal NHL 100 Classic Jersey
Montreal Canadiens fans knew that the team would be in the NHL100 classic, but not what they would be wearing during the outdoor game. Not anymore.
The NHL has been around for 100 years which is insane when you think about it. The league has had amazing players and events happen within that time frame which we’ve all tried to remember as this season continues. Gary Bettman told media last March that the league will be celebrating that first game ever played between the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators back in 1917 in a unique way.
The Habs and the Sens have been battling it out for a long time, and as of late, the games have usually been pretty heated. However, to quote our lovely commissioner, it’s only right to bring these two teams together to mark the next 100 years. Just a little sidenote, the Montreal won that game back in 1917 with a score of 7-4. Quick flashback shoutout to Joe Malone who had five goals when all was said and done.
Besides the significance of this game, fans are pretty excited to see what the players will be wearing on the ice. The Habs Twitter account sent out a little tease of what the jersey will look like, and the imaginations began to run wild.
This is an important detail. The Habs are 2-1 in outdoor games and need to look good getting the third win. Last year it was at the Winter Classic against the Boston Bruins, and Montreal rose to a 5-1 victory while wearing these:
Not bad at all, but we finally know what the jerseys for the NHL 100 Classic will look and they might look even better.
100 Years of Habs in a Jersey
The first thing that sticks out to you is how bright it is. The silver on the sleeves has the dates of the years the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup which is a large part of the NHL’s history as a whole.
A symbolic touch to the sweater is on the inside collar. There is a line from Jon McCrea’s well-known poem, “In Flanders Field,” written in French. It translates as, “To you, from failing hands, we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high,” which is fitting for the significance of this game. These two teams will pass the torch and be the beginning of the next 100 years of NHL history.
It’s not too different from the sweater the Montreal Canadiens already wear, but it will be great to see the players on the team wearing it on December 6th.
