The Montreal Canadiens may be without Jonathan Drouin Thursday against the Minnesota Wild, but they can’t miss their chance to make it four-in-a-row.
It’s funny when you think about it. For the longest time, the only streak the Montreal Canadiens had started with an L. Things have picked up for the boys in blue, red, and white lately, and they can increase this win streak to four with some revenge against the Minnesota Wild.
Byron Froese will be making his regular season debut with the Habs in this game. The 26-year-old was called up after Tuesday night’s win in exchange for Micahel McCarron after having a solid start with the Laval Rocket. His experience in the NHL is limited, but he should be able to give the fourth line with some jump.
Jacob de La Rose will be getting back into the lineup in place of Torrey Mitchell after being scratched last game. The 22-year-old has continued to look better for the Habs but needs to do more to prevent Claude Julien from taking him out again.
We have a little bit of a peace of mind from yesterday’s practice absentees. Andrew Shaw told media Thursday morning that he will be playing, but there still isn’t a confirmation on the status of Jonathan Drouin. The sense is that it will be a game-time decision, however seeing him take the ice may be a sign that he’ll be there. Additionally, we learned from Julien that Carey Price is progressing well and that he may return to practice on Friday.

Speaking of goaltenders, Charlie Lindgren will be getting his third consecutive start. The Wall of Lindgren has been a large part of the team’s recent success apart from the offence Shaw and Brendan Gallagher have brought to the table. Lindgren has yet to lose with the Montreal Canadiens and is working with an impressive .971 save percentage.
The odds will be in Montreal’s favour for this one. The Wild played Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs and lost their third game in a row. This is a tired but desperate team walking into the Bell Center. Additionally, eyes have to be on Jason Zucker who scored two goals in the team’s loss.
Devan Dubnyk may be getting the start for Minnesota as their usual backup Alex Stalock is away from the team due to personal reasons. He didn’t get too much work only facing 18 shots. However, there’s still a chance Bruce Boudreau is more cautious and gives AHL call-up Niklas Svedberg the start instead.
It’s not ideal to pay attention to the out of town scoreboard this early, but other teams in the East are winning their games as well. Montreal needs to continue getting those points and stay close to a playoff spot. A team ahead of them may hit a bump in the road soon, and if that happens, that will be their chance to capitalize.
