Both the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers are having poor starts to their season and there is a rumor that there may be a future deal between them.

If you asked yourself which two teams would be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers would probably be far from anyone’s first choice. As fate would have it, that’s what fans are dealing with now.

The Habs are still trying to juggle things around in the lineup to trigger a better performance from the team. Fans we’ll get to see Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers whether any of those changes work. Even if Montreal starts to trend upward, the smell of a trade is still in the air.

Alex Galchenyuk is the name that is usually involved in trade rumours. There were those who believed that he would be moved in a possible trade for Matt Duchene, and he is still one of the names pegged to go to the New York Islanders if Marc Bergevin finds a way to trade for John Tavares.

More from Rumors

There is a new rumour floating around social media which could possible see Galchenyuk go to the Rangers. According to a post done by danslescoulisses.com, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports spoke of a move which would have the Montreal Canadiens acquire Mats Zuccarello or Chris Kreider in exchange for Galchenyuk. This idea has since blown up all over Habs and Rangers Twitter.

Considering all the “possible” deals that haven’t taken place, I find it hard to believe something like this to happen. Both players would be good additions to the team, and it’s possible that a change in scenery could be best for all three involved. However, Kreider in particular has an interesting history with the Habs.

Whether it was on purpose or by accident, Kreider took out Carey Price in the Eastern Conference Finals back in 2014. Then you have to think back to the following season when the two got close enough to have a few words.

It’s professionals we’re talking about here, but it would be a weird development in the locker room if he was brought aboard.

At the same time, Kreider and Zuccarello have put up good numbers in the past with 53 and 59 point seasons respectively. We’re going to have to wait for additional validation of this rumour. For the time being, we should probably take it with a grain of salt.
