The Montreal Canadiens are in the middle of their California road trip and need to find a way to end their five-game losing streak.

Los Angeles is the next stop for the Montreal Canadiens on this road trip. History repeated itself Tuesday night as the team lost to the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night. The past isn’t on the Habs’ side as well, but if there was ever a time for a big win, it would be now.

They need to stop the bleeding here. Montreal has been playing well, they just haven’t been able to find the back of the net as much as they’d like to. That Sharks game was going well even after Logan Couture made it 1-0. Jonathan Drouin was quickly able to respond for the Habs but It all went downhill from there.

The Montreal Canadiens have dug themselves quite a bit of a hole. They are last in the Atlantic Division with three points which is far from good as teams start to reach that 10-game mark.

More from Habs News

Unfortunately, the Habs are at a disadvantage here. Not only are they down in the dumps from losing, it’s the second half of a back-to-back. The Kings are well rested considering they haven’t played a game since Sunday when they defeated the New York Islanders 3-2.

Taking all that into account, the game can go one of two ways. Either the Habs acknowledge all the things they have against them going into the Staples Center and find a higher level of urgency, or Al Montoya, who will be making his season debut, absolutely steals this game.

It wouldn’t be the first time if he does. The 32-year-old had to stand on his head at the beginning of last season during Montreal’s 10-0-1 start. He played in three of those games including a 4-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It would be best for the Montreal Canadiens to combine the two possible outcomes. Does Montoya need to play well? Absolutely. The main role of a backup is to stand strong on the nights where the team doesn’t have it on back-to-backs. However, something has to give for the rest of the players. They need to dig in and find a way to win.
