Another week and more Montreal Canadiens prospects are continuing to make their mark early on their respective teams this season.

The Canadian Hockey League is already a week old. Leagues in Finland and Sweden have already begun playing. What I’m trying to say here is that prospects in the Montreal Canadiens organization have been busy.

More of them are going to get their chance to play with the AHL starting soon and the NCAA set to start this weekend. Every game they get closer to playing in the NHL, and most have to have the Habs in their mind as their destination.

This week was a lot better than last week in terms of production. Not just individually, but some of the teams have been improving as a while as well.

Week of September 29th – October 5th

William Bitten

The offence has been continue to come for William Bitten. In the three games he’s played with the Hamilton Bulldogs this season, he had a goal and three assists. Bitten’s assist in the 4-3 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs was a nice sight. He also had the shootout winner in the game against Barrie.

Michael Pezzetta

Pezzetta was the highlight of last week’s prospect tracker after his three-point performance against North Bay. The offence didn’t come as easy for him, but he had his chances in particular during the overtime portion of the Greyhounds game. Fortunately Pezzetta turned that around scoring a goal and an assist Thursday night.

Jarret Tyszka

Tyszka has put up the most points among defencemen in the Montreal Canadiens pool with three assists over the three games. His helper in the Tri City game was interesting. We won’t know if he meant to do this or not, but Tyszka’s point shot bounced off the glass to Moilanen who eventually got the puck to Nolan Volcan. Either way, it’s nice to see the offence continue to find Tyszka considering how he’s been improving defensively

Cale Fleury

It’s been a bittersweet week for Cale Fleury. He scored his first goal of the season and added an assist in one of the earlier games of the week. Additionally, he was very impressive overall against the Spokane Chiefs. Unfortunately, it looks like Fleury is going to be suspended after his hit in the Edmonton Oil Kings hit.

Scott Walford

Walford could easily have more points (he had an assist this week). Not so much because he sacrifices his offence for defence, but because he does so many little things before the goal is scored. In particular is his first pass out of the zone that many have taken a liking to.

Lukas Vejdemo

The 21-year-old is finally starting to get rewarded for the work he’s been putting in. Vejdemo has a goal and an assist between the two games Djurgårdens has played. The goal was an empty-netter in the team’s 4-2 win, but scoring in any way instills confidence. He’s already well on his way to beating his point total from last season (8).

Arvid Henrikson

It’s a more positive week for Örebro HK as they managed to win a game. Henrikson was moved back to the second pairing again and but recorded his first point of the season (assist).

Joni Ikonen

Things may be about to turn for Ikonen. Kalpa lost their games on September 29th and 30th and Ikonen played four and six minutes respectively. However, he broke his drought and picked up two assists in the team’s 7-1 Champions League game where he played 12 minutes.

The Kalpa coach seemed to put some stock in that game and gave Ikonen more time but on the wing (11:39). It wouldn’t be surprising to see him stay on the wing more often than not then move him back to center once he’s shown more progress.
