For the time being, the Montreal Canadiens need to start sticking to who they have and rely on the players they have in the system for additional support.

Player movement has to be one of the most exciting things about the NHL. That’s why a lot of fans put stock in waivers, the Trade Deadline, and Free Agent Frenzy. Seeing a player change teams and wondering what they’ll do in a new environment is always something to be talked about. It happens all over the league, but the Montreal Canadiens have had their fair share of player movement.

Despite all the negativity, this roster is looking to do something special this season. Everyone on the Canadiens has their own personal goals, and at the same time goals for what they can together as a unit. After the roster freeze Tuesday, the team will be set for the next little while and to be honest, that’s the way it should stay.

Everyday a new waiver list comes out and people look into who a team should acquire. There isn’t any room on the Montreal Canadiens unless they decide on playing someone else lower than they should or putting them on waivers.

It’s crazy to think that Alex Galchenyuk could be starting on the fourth line. Sure team’s have tried to add more skill to that area of their teams, but it shouldn’t be that low for a player of his talents. You can’t blame fans for thinking that a trade may be in the works because of that.

However, it’s naive to think that no movement can happen at all. There’s always the risk of injuries or suspensions. The thing is though, the Montreal Canadiens did something this year that they haven’t done too often in the past. They’ve given their homegrown talent a chance.

Before, a prospect would play in the NHL as an injury fill-in or if they made the team out of camp, it would be in a limited role. Claude Julien as given the pool a chance to play. Charles Hudon and Jacob de La Rose have probably made the team out of camp. Additionally, 19-year-old Victor Mete has had every opportunity to play.

The Montreal Canadiens need to allow the Montreal Canadiens to get the job done. It’ll be a different narrative around the end of February, but for now let’s see what the entire organization can do.
