With the roster deadline set for Tuesday at 5 PM Eastern Time, the Montreal Canadiens will have to make a decision as to where Victor Mete plays.

The Montreal Canadiens final roster is pretty much set. From the looks of it, they’re going to with 13 forwards, 8 defencemen, and 2 goaltenders. Obviously at the forefront will be the likes of Jonathan Drouin, Max Pacioretty, and Carey Price.

All NHL teams have until Tuesday evening to send in their cap-compliant 23-man roster for the regular season. The Habs have been placing players on waivers and assigning them to the Laval Rocket for the past few days. Just recently, Andreas Martinsen, Charlie Lindgren, and Byron Froese were released from the team.

The only problem is that the Montreal Canadiens have 24 players remaining. Obviously that is one too many. There could be a lot of ways that this can be fixed. Joseph Morrow, Brandon Davidson, or Mark Streit could be put on waivers. However, a team could find some reason to want to take a flyer on either of them. Morrow may have a chance of clearing, but he looks like Claude Julien‘s reclamation project for this season.

As terrible as it is to say, the decision may come down to Victor Mete.

A Choice to Save the World

Alright this choice won’t have an impact on the fate of the planet, but it is pretty important. The Montreal Canadiens have two choices. They can either place David Schlemko on IR or send Mete back down to the London Knights.

Ya, remember Schlemko? The Habs traded for him over the summer, but he’s yet to play because of a hand injury. If Montreal decides to place Schlemko on IR then he’ll be ineligible to play for at least seven days. Assuming the injury is still bad will keep him out longer, that’ll allow Mete to stay up and play in the line-up.

That could give the Habs enough time to see if Mete can handle the full extent of the NHL. I say full because he may be playing with Shea Weber come October 5th. There’s been some concern and pessimism regarding Mete’s ability to do it, but they have to give him a chance.

On the other hand, the Canadiens had hopes that maybe Schlemko could play on that top pair. It would be his first time playing, but perhaps they believe in his ability so much to give him priority.

We’ll have to wait and see what the Montreal Canadiens decide to do.
