Montreal Canadiens: Alex Galchenyuk May Be on the Move
There may be some heated discussions going on between the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche involving Matt Duchene.
Three days until the start of the regular for the Montreal Canadiens and there are already trade rumours going on. Of course it’s nothing new really, it involves the hot commodity of the NHL Matt Duchene.
It’s no secret that the 26-year-old wants out of Colorado. There was a big chance that he could’ve been moved at last year’s trade deadline, but he wasn’t. Then there was a chance that he would be moved in the off-season, but he wasn’t. There’s been no shortage of teams that have inquired about the young center, but Joe Sakic‘s price is too high!
The situation started to get more messy when Duchene didn’t come to team’s initial events. However, he’s since joined the Avalanche in their preseason and has played in a couple of games. According to Jimmy Murphy, the talks around a Duchene trade to the Montreal Canadiens have picked up.
Weeks ago it was the Ottawa Senators who were in the lead to acquire Duchene, so it’s interesting to see that the Habs have jumped the line a bit. However, that’s assuming this is true.

Based on what happened in the latter half of the preseason, it makes sense as to why Alex Galchenyuk could be moved. He was originally meant to play on a line with Phillip Danault, but that didn’t seem to be working. After watching how well Danault, Paul Byron, and Andrew Shaw played together, it may be the better choice to have them as a line.
So where would Galchenyuk fit in if that’s the case? Claude Julien had him playing on the fourth line in the playoffs, but they can’t do that again. That’s a true waste of talent. If Marc Bergevin feels that they can succeed without him then I guess you could rationalize a trade like that.
At the end of the day, this isn’t Bob McKenzie or Elliotte Friedman leaking this news. It could very well just be talk and nothing else. However it’s still something that Montreal Canadiens fans should keep their eye on.
