TAMPA, FL - APRIL 9: Jonathan Drouin
TAMPA, FL - APRIL 9: Jonathan Drouin

It was NHL Media Day in New York yesterday and the Montreal Canadiens had new addition Jonathan Drouin representing the team at the event.

NHL Media Day, the beginning of the heavy-duty media coverage for the regular season. Stars of from NHL teams around the league made their way down to New York yesterday to have their pictures taken and many other things. The Montreal Canadiens had new acquisition Jonathan Drouin represent the team.

Obviously I’m exaggerating. Taking pictures isn’t the only thing done at Media Day. These players also get video-tapped and interviewed. It’s not all business. From the pictures posted on Twitter of table tennis and holding up props, it looked like most of them were having a good time.

Back to the Montreal Canadiens. Is it weird that they let Drouin represent the team at this event? It’s not integral to the team’s success or anything, but it is telling of what they think of the young forward. Here are some of the shots of Drouin from Media Day:

Ever since the Habs traded for Drouin, they’ve had him at the center stage of the social media and have done as much as they could to have him in the community. It makes sense, he is part of the community.

More from Habs News

Drouin grew up a Canadiens fan and is from Quebec himself. It wont take long before he becomes a home town hero for the team. However, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions yet. The 2017-2018 season doesn’t start until next month.

Hockey is a team sport, and at times there’s a reluctance to dub one player as the face of the franchise. For the longest time Carey Price has been the face of the franchise, and there’s no doubt that he will continue to be that in the years to come. Max Pacioretty also shares some of that limelight being the team captain.

However, you can’t say that the Montreal Canadiens aren’t hoping that Drouin picks up some of that stardom and runs with it.

Some may say that the team may be piling on additionally pressure. Pressure isn’t necessarily a bad a thing, it just depends on how you respond to it. Drouin is confident in himself and what he can bring to the Montreal Canadiens this season. He knows he can be a face, and he wants to be that for his hometown team.

So keep going to these events Drouin, because this definitely wont be your last.
