LONDON, ON - FEBRUARY 24: Victor Mete

Training camp and pre-season has started for some of the Montreal Canadiens prospects, let’s take a look at how well some of them have been doing.

September, the amazing month where hockey starts. NHL teams don’t start their training camps for another two weeks or so, but other leagues have already gotten to work. Some Montreal Canadiens prospects in particular have seen some ice time.

Since we’re a Montreal Canadiens site, and our job is to cover the team on all levels, it would be a good idea to track how the future is looking so far. The OHL and WHL started their pre-season schedules on Friday, while some European leagues are well in theirs.

OHL Prospects

Victor Mete had a solid start to the preseason for the London Knights. The 2016 fourth round pick finished the game with a goal and an assist in the team’s 7-4 win against the Sarnia Sting. The goal came from the power play and cut Sarnia’s then 2-0 lead in half.

Jeremiah Addison and William Bitten didn’t take part in their team’s games yesterday.

WHL Prospects

2017 2nd round pick Josh Brook also had a nice pre-season debut. Brook’s Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Swift Current Broncos 5-2 where he put up two assists. Both were on the power play, in particular, the first which was a nice cross ice pass from Brook to Justin Alemida.

Scott Walford had an assist for the Victoria Royals in their loss to the Kamloops Blazers. Additionally, even though Jarret Tyszka went pointless in Seattle’s loss to Vancouver, he had an alright game overall.

Europe

Montreal Canadiens fans have been the most excited about Joni Ikonen. The 2017 2nd pick (I still can’t believe they got him in the second round), has been playing for KalPA of Liiga. Ikonen has been the team’s top-line center in the pre-season but has gone pointless in all appearances. However, he was all over the ice in their game against JYP and finished with seven shots.

KalPA is now in the Champions tournament. Ikonen sat for the first game, but has been manning the second line since returning to the line-up.

Djurgårdens IF’s training camp has been trucking along including some friendly matches. Lukas Vejdemo has been getting some playing time, in particular the game against Brynäs. Vejdemo was the second-line center and showed off some find playmaking skills.
