In this week’s Twitter Poll Thursday, Montreal Canadiens fans vote who will spend more time in the NHL between Charles Hudon and Daniel Carr.

As the offseason continues for Montreal Canadiens fans, the easiest thing to do is predict who will be on the roster next year. The top nine will be easy to sort out, however the fourth line is where holes can be filled by different players.

Waivers is going to force the Habs to make some tough decisions out of camp. In particular, when it comes to Charles Hudon and Daniel Carr. The two forwards have spent some time in the NHL dating back to the 2015-2016 season. Unfortunately, there are only two options for the two forwards. Either they make the team, or they are put on waivers to be sent down to the Laval Rocket.

The issue with sending them down is with their age and obvious skill, there is a big chance they are picked up by another team. So, who will spend more time in the NHL next season? From the poll, it looks like there is a belief among Montreal Canadiens fans that it will be Hudon.

Poll Results

This may be surprising depending on how you look at it. For one, Carr has more NHL experience than Hudon. The 25-year-old has 18 points in 56 NHL games. Additionally, he made the Canadiens roster out of camp last season.

More from A Winning Habit

Hudon on the other hand only has six NHL games to his name with a point total of four. However, the 2012 fifth round pick may very well be the better player. The production that Hudon has at the AHL level cannot be ignored as he’s had around 50 points in each season. Carr in comparison has produced a lot less than Hudon did in the AHL, but that’s not to say he doesn’t deserve a spot either.

If you take a look at our roster projections for the 2017-2018 season, the battle for a spot between the young forwards may be for the fourth line left-wing position. So far, Torrey Mitchell and free agent signing Ales Hemsky can already be penciled in on that line.

When Carr made the team last season, it was as the fourth line left-winger. Baring any trades from the top nine of the Habs’ line-up, it’ll be at that position where one of the two will start. With that being said, there’s no doubt in my mind that it will be Hudon there next season.
