Montreal Canadiens Explode Offensively: Score 6 in the 1st

The Montreal Canadiens took advantage of a horrible Colorado Avalanche squad, and it was over after the first period.

As soon as the puck dropped at the Bell Center, the Montreal Canadiens demolished the Colorado Avalanche 10 to 1. The Canadiens came out of the gate skating fast and working hard down low. This was good to see as the Canadiens have struggled to start well or have much offense over the past few weeks.

The Avalanche looked lazy and uninterested and this definitely played in favor of the Canadiens. The Habs scored six in the first period and had five goals before the 10 minute mark.

Many wondered if the Habs could break the record for most goals in one period with nine. This record was set back in 1981 by the Buffalo Sabres and they went on to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 14-4.

The last time that the Canadiens scored six goals in one period was December 17th 1992 and it was against the Quebec Nordiques. Clearly, this was a special period for the Habs that will be remembered for quite sometime. However, this was a very important period for many Habs players.

Slumping Players on the Score Sheet

Canadiens Captain Max Pacioretty had been slumping for most of the season but he was able to score four goals! Pacioretty now has seven goals in his four games and he seems to be back to his old self. Pacioretty also added assist in the second period and this brings his point total up to 23 on the season.

Tomas Plekanec also benefited from the offensive explosion and he registered four assists. With Alex Galchenyuk out for the next eight weeks the Habs need Pleky to step up. However, since Galchenyuk’s injury, Plekanec has one goal and four assists in three games.

Alexander Radulov was also on the same line as Plekanec and Pacioretty. Radulov added one goal and and assist in the blowout. Hopefully, this trio can be consistent as they look to have good chemistry with each other.

Therrien Having Fun?

Head Coach Michel Therrien was even enjoying what he saw taking place on the ice. Normally Therrien has a no nonsense mentality but even he was overjoyed by the results goal scoring parade. Therrien could be seen laughing and he even started joking around with Alexander Radulov, by pushing his helmet over his head.

Therrien takes a ton of heat but it was good to watch him have fun with the players.

Trade Rumors

There have also been rumors about the Habs trying to acquire Avalanche Forward Matt Duchene but he was nonexistent in the game. The Montreal Canadiens would have to give up a ton to acquire Duchene but the Habs don’t need to force any radical trades to replace Galchenyuk.

The Huge Hit

Near the end of the game Canadiens Defensemen Alexei Emelin destroyed Colorado Forward Joe Colborne along the boards. Emelin sized up Colbourne and threw a huge hip check. The force of the threw Colborne to do a complete flip and he hit the ice hard.

Final Thoughts

This was truly a magical night for the Habs as everything they did went in their favor. The Canadiens next game is against the Boston Bruins on Monday night and it won’t be as easy as tonight. All in all it was great to see the Max, Pleky, and Radu line just explode!
