If you don’t know Mike McCarron, you soon will, as he is working his way towards becoming an elite prospect for the Montreal Canadiens. Here are some of his details:
- Right-Winger
- 6’6″, 225 lbs
- Born March 7th, 1995 in Macomb Michigan (20 years old)
- Drafted in the 1st round of the 2013 draft, 25th overall, by Montreal
- Played 2 seasons with the U.S National Development Team
- States that the jump from playing around 40 games per season to more than 60 has taken a toll on him, which is why he concentrated on conditioning last off-season, which has helped him a lot this year

Here is his draft day (notice how the best available in the right hand corner is listed as Jacob De La Rose. Ironic isn’t it):
When they acquired McCarron, the Oshawa Generals GM put out the following statement:
"“In acquiring Michael, we are again adding size and also acquiring an NHL signed first round draft pick. Michael can also score, can play both centre and right wing, and the likelihood here is that he’ll team up with Michael Dal Colle.”"
After the London Knights dealt McCarron to the Oshawa Generals, he did fairly well to finish the year off. He managed the following stats with the Generals through 31 Games:
| # | Name | GP | G | A | PTS | +/- | PIM | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55 | Michael McCarron | 31 | 6 | 21 | 27 | +17 | 70 |
He maintained a great performance through the regular season and got to build some chemistry with his new team mates before setting off into the playoffs, the real reason they obtained McCarron in trade. Here’s my favourite McCarron highlight, a taste of what he can provide for the Habs (talk about grit and skill combo):
That’s what he brings to the table.
