#2. CHANGE THE POWER PLAY UNITS

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know just how horrific the Habs power play is. Everyone knows it. The Habs know. Their coaches know. The Senators know. The fans definitely know. And yet, nothing, and I mean nothing, has been done to change this.

HOW CAN THIS BE?????

This is a professional hockey franchise, is it not? They have the video, the evidence that proves just how ineffective their PP is. They also have access to the best PP videos in the NHL. Why not WATCH HOW OTHER TEAMS DO IT to make your PP better?

Right now, the Habs are using a “hope we get lucky” approach from the point, or trying to create space down low to sneak a pass through to the slot. Neither are working. The results are, as described by TSN:

"“Montreal’s anaemic power play went 0 for 3 and is now 1 for 19 for the series.”"

Remember how Wayne Gretzky used to set himself up in his office behind the net? It was deemed unorthodox, but he did it because what he was doing before that was being countered effectively and he didn’t want to keep failing. Why are the Habs so willing to keep failing by doing the same thing over and over again on the PP?

Beats me. But I really, really hope they start changing…..now!

The 3 players we need to step up the most to get the PP going are Max Pacioretty, P.K. Subban, and Tomas Plekanec. The leading scorers in the regular season for the Habs need to step up. They need to fight through their slumps and to me, putting Plekanec and Pacioretty on the same line adds scoring weight to that line, particularly when P.K. Subban is on the blue line with Andrei Markov.

Finally, the person I will name in the #1 needed change should be getting power play time. I have NO idea why he hasn’t yet, since he’s one of the most dangerous offensive players the Habs have.
