Beantown Brouhaha

An obese person is obese.

A chicken is a chicken.

Mick Jagger has big lips.

The truth is unaware of criticism and speaks volumes without  any help from the masses.

The truth when it comes to Montreal ‘ s hockey team is a huge as Don Cherry’s ego. Jacques Martin is not a good coach and the Canadiens are doomed to another season with their Stanley Cup – yes , their Stanley Cup in the gloves of another team. That is unless Pierre Gauthier does the proper thing and delivers forwards with size , talent and grit before the trading deadline. Gauthier must also sit down with Mr. Martin and discuss his four percent and ensure the coach’ s air fare is paid back to the Sunshine State.

Ridding a team of it ‘s coach at this late stage of a season can be dangerous. In the Habs’ case , assistant coach Kirk Muller should be promoted to head coach which would enable the team to be more aggressive when it needs to be and Muller ‘s appointment would not ‘ rock the proverbial Canadiens ‘ boat.’ Muller is adored by the players and he has earned his ‘ keep ‘ and is ready to be a head coach. Captain Kirk has already stated that he is looking for that very position next season and if the Habs’ management lets him walk in lieu of Martin – the late Sam Pollock will be crying in his wings.

We went to the fights and a basketball game broke out

The Habs have already missed the ball and let Guy Boucher ply his talents as a coach in Tampa. Losing Muller would be a shame. Habitually  the Canadiens have hired guys with no experience or in the case of Martin – a guy with tons of experience yet lacking the knowhow to garnish a championship. If Martin was a man and not an Elfin character out of the Lord of the Rings , Jacques would be the friend that reaches third base and never hits a homerun. The type of individual who forgets the condom each and everytime he does reach third – thus enabling an ‘ out ‘ call from the Princess Stanley.

Martin’s troupes were manhandled in Boston and Carey Price was a victim of eight goals. Why was Price not pulled following the fifth Bruin tally ? Even if Martin asked Price of he wanted out and Price said no – it is Martin ‘s job as the team boss to put his foot down on Price’s skate. Martin is the boss , at least on paper. According to a source , the players , in general , do not like Jacques Martin. He is aloof and attempts to distance himself to gain control and respect –  a la Scotty Bowman. It is an honourable thing and far better than the buddy buddy relationship that Guy  Carbpnneau possessed when he was at the helm of the good ship Habitant. To succeed in this NHL , unless you are Scotty Bowman – Martin’ s attempt will fail. What the Hab require is a  Mike Keenan / Guy Carbonneau combination. The result ? Kirk Muller.

Kirk is Work

Kirk is younger than Martin and is young enough to be close to the end of his playing days. Meaning Muller has the instinct of today’s players and the fire inside to be on the ice during a game like that of the Habs – Bruins contest. Muller has been to war and has hoisted the Cup. He was a player before the league was changed into a Stars On Ice parade . When Martin was watching his Cornwall Aces lose in the third round of the play – offs , Muller was hoisting the Cup. That is something the Ottawa Senators should have done yet Martin’s Sens went down in defeat three times in the first round.  Martin and his Canadiens went into Boston Wednesday night for the biggest game of the season. A four – pointer , a battle for number one in the division and a match which promised to be physical due to Pacioretty’s shove back in Montreal. Jacques Martin and Pierre Gauthier were obviously not Boy Scouts. If they had been then they would have been prepared for the Bruin game. They would have called up Ryan White before and not after the Boston match. They would have added muscle to defend against the Bruin’s caldron of hatred that brewed inside them once they realized they were on the losing end of  three straight losses. One of which to the Forum / Bell Center ghosts.

John Ferguson is Mad

It is interesting to discover how profoundly the bleu, blanc et rouge blood runs in former members of this storied club. After the current day Habs demonstrated their inability  to

re- incarnate George Laraque , everyone from Mario Tremblay to Chris ‘ Knuckles ‘ Nilan have been all over the airwaves shouting their displeasure over the Habs beating at the hands of their division rivals. It is not the player’s fault that the majority of them are under six feet. It is not their job to employ Rocky Balboa as their hero. They have grown up and learned to play hockey as goal scorers. They were drafted as goal scorers by the Canadiens or whichever NHl team deemed them talented enough. It is up to the Montreal Canadiens management to draft and or trade for players that can play hockey and fight. It is also up to the current roster of the Habs to make sure that noone takes shots at their best players. P. K . Subban and Carey Price should never have taken the abuse that they endured in Masachussets the other night. The Rocket would have eaten Lucic for dinner. Milan would be drinking from a straw right now if Ferguson had an opportunity to ‘ speak ‘ with him. ‘Knuckles ‘ Nilan , John Kordic , Sergio Momesso and  Todd Ewen would be giving high fives all week long after a game like the one in Beantown. Pierre Gauthier is very lucky that aggravated assault is a crime or he would have to stay away from the fans and the alumni of the Montreal Canadiens.

The Trade

What will Gauthier do before the trading deadline ? If Cammalleri stays , the Habs G. M must get someone to protect him. If not , move Cammalleri for a twenty goal scorer who can give the beats to a player such as Lucic. A trade with New Jersey would have been a perfect solution although since a certain Lemaire has gotten through to the boys in Swampland – it seems highly unlikely. Kovalchuk would have given the Habs a high powered offensive line and Rolston and Arnott are players that have talent and toughness. Instead of Cammalleri , the Habs should ship Kostistyn anywhere but here as the Russian is showing more and more signs of a Kovalev complex. It is becoming apparent that the Canadiens rid themselves of the wrong brother as Sergei has surpassed his Bro’ in points skating for Nashville.

It is also become apparent that the Habs must get rid of Gomez anyway they can. Take a used puck bag for him Pierre. A signed autograph of Alexandre Daigle. Anything to make sure that Gomez’ smile does not occupy any part of Le Centre Bell. How does a player that makes that amount of money have reason to smile when a rookie named P. K . is within Mick Jagger’s width of catching him in points. Um…excuse me Scotty , P. K. is a defenceman …

Something must be done to instill fear in the Lucics of the world. Something must be done by management to ensure that the Habs do not lose to a team like the Islanders because they are suffering from Post Traumatic Syndrome the day after they are beaten into submission. The Islanders should have been the team that was shaking in their skates after witnessing the Habs being the ‘ beaters ‘ and not the ‘ beatees.’

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in town tonight. If Ron Wilson has a brain , he will inflict the same type of toughness on the Habs that Claude Julien did in Boston.

A skinny person is skinny.

A rooster is a rooster.

Mick Jagger is all of the above and The Montreal Canadiens are the Montreal Canadiens.
