Brian Gionta will be the second American to become the Captain of The Montreal Canadiens.
There could not be a better choice as Gionta starts his second of what will be a five year term in Montreal and probably more as Brian has impressed a whole city in just a year in the red and white and blue.
Gionta scored 28 goals in 61 games last season and added 18 assists for a total of 46 points. His season was shortened due a broken foot suffered just before Christmas.
At 5′ 7′ and 175 pounds, Gionta is a little guy but his heart more than atones for his lack of size.
He led the Habs in their play – off run with 15 points in 19 games and was a true leader on the ice. Gionta succeeds Saku Koivu as Captain and along with Chris Chelios – the trio are the only non – Canadians to Captain the Habs
