The NHL’ s Greatest Hits

Sunday afternoon brings feelings of family, home and comfort…

As the summer gives way to the shorter days, the kids are back in school and you have more time for yourself…

What better time to reflect back on a week in the goings on in the N.H.L.?

The Grapes of Kovalchuk

Now that Ilya has agreed to a new contract with the Devils and the NHL has let him, all that is left now is for Kovalchuk to decide between how many goals he will score or what other hobbies 100 million will get him. We can only hope that flying is not one of them and that he does not hook up with Alexei Kovalev to take flying lessons. Kovalev – as we all know, never came back to earth once he became air born...all together now – There are far worse problems in the world…!

Mike Modano – The highest scoring American born player in the history of the NHL ( 557 goals and 1,359 points) , skated for the first time this week in a Detroit Red Wing uniform. The forty year old Modano has spent his entire career with Dallas and joining the Wings brings him back to his hometown of Detroit armed with a 1.25 million dollar contract plus bonuses. Todd Bertuzzi gave Modano a lift after practice…geez , I hope that Mike didn’t turn his back to him….

Boston GM Peter Chiarelli has informed forward Marc Savard that he will not be traded. Savard has been the subject of several trade reports and rumors over the summer as the Bruins look to trim salary to fit their team cap.Last month, Savard told the Ottawa Sun that the Bruins ; “hurt me a little bit just because I went to Boston and helped build that team back up”. Two things Mr. Savard ; One – the Bruins blew a 3 -0 series lead and two –  ‘There’s no cryin’ in Baseball or HOCKEY !!!!!!’

Back to the Devils…

<     New Jersey released their new logo celebrating goalie Martin Brodeur’s excellence and Kovalchuk’s skill. The team’s owner … SATAN ...is  said to be disappointed in the decision…

Ever wonder why former tough guy Brad May is no longer playing in the league…? ( Not that there’s anything wrong with it ! ).

The Bad News

Grab the kids and run ! Go as far as you can go ! Stay with relatives that you hate ! Stay with relatives in Iceland if you can…! Cover your eyes and block your ears…! Yes – in just two short weeks from now , Don Cherry will be invading our living rooms with his loud and obnoxious  statements. Then he’ll start talking and we will really be in trouble !

Take care everyone – enjoy your week and remember, Hockey is  all fun and games until someone loses the puck!

Don’t forget to answer this week’s new poll – Who has the best chance of making the Canadiens first ? Louis Leblanc or Jarred Tinordi  ?

Last week’s poll was split as half of you said that the Habs should have kept Halak while the other half thought it was Price that should have stayed.

To all of my American readers…We Shall Not Forget.
