3 Things. Volume II

facebooktwitterreddit

I may or may not continue doing these, but I think they are a good break from Player Studies.(plus they’re fun to write) As I said in the last “3 Things” the topics will mostly be pertaining to off-ice matters, as it will today.

1.R.I.P. Wade Belak

For a few days now I’d been planning on using this #1 spot to recruit, but that now seems mundane and silly after the hockey world suffered another tragedy in the passing of Wade Belak. Belak now joins Derek Boogard and Rick Rypien as he is the third NHL enforcer to pass this off season. No one could have suspected this. People who had seen him recently, said that he looked happy, even that he lit up the room when he walked in. But everyone has their demons, some worse than others, even if they don’t show it.

I will always remember Wade by the fight he got into while I was attending my first ever NHL game. He was on the Leafs at the time, fighting a NJ Devil. (I don’t quite remember who) Belak absolutely demolished this player. He beat him so bad that during the morning highlights they started to count how many punches Belak landed before the other player could swing once. (If you were wondering, that number was 16).

It’s easy to say that Wade Belak will be deeply missed. You can pay your respects on the RIP Wade Belak Facebook page.

2. 2011-2012 Habs campaign revealed

So What do you think? To be honest, at first glance I was a little freaked out when I saw the mashed up faces, but they quickly grew on me. I highly recommend you download the September desktop calendar (which features the picture on the right, PK and Carey) Every time I close my browser and see their mashed face I get all giddy in anticipation for the upcoming season. There are some more faces to see still, if you want to see who the other pictures are of, here is a link to the Montreal Canadiens Facebook page. *You must “Like the page before viewing the pictures*(If you don’t already) So, to say the least, this campaign works. I’d love some more opinions, So today and today only, I will reveal the question early “Thoughts on new Habs Campaign?” Comment, tweet (@JScaresHabs), you know the deal.

3. I believe I’ve found the Hockey heaven.

Pro Hockey Life. Recently a local Sportchek closed down in favour of a Pro Hockey Life. I had never been to a Pro Hockey Life before, so I was excited to see what sorts of wonder it contained. As I walked in the door I was amazed at how it looked, how it was laid out, the equipment it had, everything was just perfect. This particular time I went there because I was in desperate need of skates. At the back of the store, there was a whole wall dedicated to skates. At the Skate Wall, there were 4 skate specialists ready to assist me immediately. The range of skates they had was out standing, skates priced any where from $99.99 to $999.99 so your sure to find a pair within your price range.

Everything you could ever need for hockey, I guarantee you will find it at Pro Hockey Life. Even if you don’t play Hockey, there is a whole half of the store devoted to selling memorabilia from your favourite team. There are t-shirts, jerseys, hats, plaques, posters, mugs, cups, pencils, alarm clocks, piggy banks and a ton of other nick-nacks, all offered in a variety of different teams. (Though, I was a little peeved that they didn’t have any Habs hats.) To make things even better, Sometimes they have NHL players come in for signings. In two months, they’ve already had notable names such as Matt Duschene and Tim Connolly make appearances.

I can tell you now that I’ll be spending a lot of time here, and if you have one in your neighbourhood, I highly recommend you check it out.

That’s all for now, I tried to talk more about the Habs related material this time, hopefully you enjoyed it. Remember, “Thoughts on new Habs campaign?” Please comment or tweet, it’s greatly appreciated.
