Montreal Canadiens: Shea Weber sent back home
By Omar L
After another practice without Shea Weber present, we’ve learned that the veteran defenceman was sent home by the Montreal Canadiens due to a foot injury.
This news from the Montreal Canadiens is both surprising and not surprising at the same time. Shea Weber hasn’t been a regular participant in practices for the past few weeks now and he as well as Claude Julien has mentioned on numerous occasions that he wasn’t at his best health-wise. However, he continued to play through whatever was ailing him, but not anymore.
Julien told reporters after practice that the team sent Weber back to Montreal to rest up. From the sound of it, it’s the same lower-body injury that kept Weber out of the lineup for six games at the end of November.
The last time this happened, Jeff Petry saw his minutes and usage increase, and that will probably happen for the next set of games. Additionally, Joseph Morrow will most likely get some regular playing time as the road trip continues.

There’s also the chance that the Habs decide to call someone up from the Laval Rocket as an extra. As much as fans want to see Noah Juulsen make his NHL debut, he just made his professional debut in the AHL not too long ago. If anything, it may be Brett Lernout who gets the call if the team decides to do so.
Weber’s injury is just another thing the Montreal Canadiens will have to deal with. It’s cliche to say, but other members of the team will have to step up in his absence. Otherwise, the season will keep slipping out of the Habs’ fingers.
What do you make of this news? Do you think Weber will be out long? If so, will the Montreal Canadiens be able to get through it on the lighter side? Let us know down in the comments.
