After starting the season in the AHL with the Laval Rocket, KHL free agent Jakub Jerabek has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens.

It isn’t surprising that this move was made by the Montreal Canadiens. Jakub Jerabek was a player of interest throughout the fanbase after he was signed over the summer from the KHL. What many didn’t know until recently was that Jerabek had a clause in his contract where he could return to his original league if he wasn’t called up before December 15th.

Now that he’s up, the Habs don’t have to worry about that even though Jerabek indicated that he wanted to stay in North America.

The 26-year-old will be joining the Montreal Canadiens later today in Nashville. It doesn’t look like this is just an emergency recall, but an opportunity to play. Shea Weber missed Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars with a lower-body injury, and Brandon Davidson drew into the lineup in his stead. I wouldn’t be surprised if Claude Julien gives Jerabek a chance to make his NHL debut.

More from Habs News

Jerabek had a slow start to his season in Laval as he was trying to adjust to the smaller ice and North American style. However, he’s slowly improved and has been a staple on the blueline. In 17 games, Jerabek has a goal and 11 assists. What’s stood out the most about his game is his skating and ability to move the puck, which is something the Habs lack on their blueline.

If Weber is still out, that will leave Karl Alzner and Jeff Petry to be the team’s top pair again. Jerabek may be paired with Jordie Benn in this game, which will hopefully allow him to play to his strengths instead of holding back.

We all wanted to see Jerabek in the NHL, and now we have our chance.
