Montreal Canadiens Notes: IceCaps Win, Updates, and More

Although the Habs had the day off, there’s plenty of news to sift through within the Habs realm, so let’s get to it!

Bud Holloway led the IceCaps to a win over the Americans with 1 goal and 2 assists (+2). Zach Fucale made 31 saves, earning his first professional win in the process, so congrats to him. Sven Andrighetto and Christian Thomas both scored twice, Charles Hudon and Morgan Ellis each had 2 assists, and would you believe that Jacob de la Rose was called for goalie interference? A good sign that he’s going to the net hard.

All-in-all, this was a great game for the IceCaps as they handed the Americans their first loss of the season through 3 games.

CAPTAINS

The @CanadiensMTL twitter account put out the latest Canadiens cover which has Bob Gainey morphing into Max Pacioretty. Creepy, or not creepy? That’s what Gainey’s daughter asked on Twitter.

THE PLEKANEC EXTENSION REACTION

Max Pacioretty on the Tomas Plekanec extension:

"“Everyone in this locker room knows how important he is. Sometimes, he might not get the recognition from the outside, but that’s why he’s so respected in our room. He doesn’t need that recognition. He’s going to show up and be that professional every day.”“He’s the most important forward on this team. He’s a guy that eats up tough minutes, but at the same time puts up numbers. Anytime he’s in a matchup like that and he wins his matchup, we have a great chance of winning the game,”"

That’s some high praise from the new Captain and is definitely worthy of a mention. When the Captain of the team calls you the most important forward on the team, overlooking himself in the process, it tells you a lot about the value of a player and the leadership ability of the Captain. Recognizing value of players and being brave enough to voice that opinion is impressive, so good on Max for that quote.

RED WINGS

Want to brush up on the Detroit Red Wings before game time? Octopus Thrower’s Andrew Ketterer has an article indicating what’s different about this Wings team than previous teams.

John Curran also has an article pointing to the concussion issues plaguing Johan Franzen, in case you weren’t aware of his plight.

The lines the Red Wings used yesterday against the Hurricanes:

You can see above that this team has turned over quite a bit. Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm, and Danny DeKeyser all join Franzen on the injured list.

The Richards-Tatar-Jurco line was noted as their most effective in camp and they were one of the few effective lines yesterday vs the Carolina Hurricanes (5-3 loss).

The Habs should have the legs to get them passed the Red Wings and they’ll look to extend their historic season start. If there’s one thing fans can’t complain about it’s the play of Carey Price and the Habs. They’re showing us exactly why so many have them pegged as Cup contenders, but teams like the Red Wings will surely prove to be big tests for this team. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Habs handle this game.
