Poll Result: Your Montreal Canadiens Fourth Line Center Is...

We have almost rounded out our roster in the vote to predict who is going to be in the Montreal Canadiens regular lineup this coming season. We just wrapped up the vote for the fourth line center, and have no picked 11 of the 12 forward spots for next season.

The vote for fourth line center was between Michael Bournival, Manny Malhotra and Brandon Prust, and the newly signed Malhotra was an overwhelming winner.

Malhotra garnered 76 percent of the votes, while Bournival took 15 percent and Prust rounded out the group with 9 percent.

Our forward lines are almost complete:

Pacioretty – Desharnais – Parenteau

Galchneyuk – Plekanec – Gallagher

Bourque – Eller – Sekac

******** – Malhotra – Weise

Malhotra was signed by the Habs minutes after free agency frenzy began on July 1st to a one year, 850,000 dollar contract. He is one of, if not the best faceoff man in the entire NHL, finishing second overall in faceoff percentage last season, winning 59.4% of his draws with the Caroline Hurricanes.

The only player to win faceoffs with a higher frequency last season was Vladimir Sobotka of the St. Louis Blues, who signed to play in the KHL next season.

Malhotra was brought in to be a fourth line center, so it only makes sense that he was an overwhelming winner in this vote. He does not provide much offense, as he scored just 13 points last season, but he is sound defensively, and is a big guy at 6’2” and 220 pounds. This makes the veteran NHLer a perfect fit on the Canadiens fourth line, and he will take some of the defensive responsibilities that were overwhelming trusted to Tomas Plekanec last season.

We only have one more forward spot to vote on, and we will find out in the coming days who you think will join Malhotra and Dale Weise on the fourth line next season, before we move back to the blue line and fill out the Habs lineup.
