Your First Line Right Winger For The Montreal Canadiens Is...

You cast your vote on who will be the Montreal Canadiens first line right winger, and after 398 votes, we have our answer. Joining Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais on the top line will be new acquisition P.A. Parenteau.

The final tally was pretty tight between Parenteau and Brendan Gallagher, as you can see here.

Parenteau 222 votes (56%)

Gallagher 119 votes (30%)

Sekac 43 votes (11%)

Andrighetto 14 votes (3%)

I am surprised that Parenteau was able to pull so far ahead of Gallagher in this vote, but have to agree that he would be a great fit on a line with Max and Davey. Pacioretty is one of the top goal scorers in the league, and Parenteau has great skills with the puck and silky soft hands. Pairing him and Desharnais on a line with a sniper like Pacioretty could be a nightmare for opposing goaltenders.

Gallagher has been a great fit on the top line in the past, but showed an ability to play tougher minutes and still contribute last season when Thomas Vanek was acquired and took over on Desharnais wing. Gallagher was dropped to a line with Tomas Plekanec and Alex Galchenyuk and even though he faced much tougher competition while playing with Plekanec, he continued to drive possession and score points.

As for Parenteau, his game is more purely offensive than Gallagher’s, and that could make him a better fit with Desharnais. Both would be given offensive minutes and not counted on to play against the oppositions best players. This would put Parenteau is the best position to succeed in his new home, and I believe makes the most sense for the Habs this season.

We will continue to fill out the Habs roster with the poll that is now open on who will be the second line center next season. An argument could be made for Plekanec to remain there, but Galchenyuk could also find himself moving to the middle, or Lars Eller could be taking on more responsibility with his long term contract he signed this afternoon.
